We have a busy group of Local governors who meet with a focus on Curriculum, Safeguarding, Pupil Premium, Health and Safety and SEND.
There are various types of governors on the governing body including parents, staff and co-opted governors who have been chosen due to the skills and experiences they can bring to the school.
As a child I attended Townville, I am now a director of a business based in the area and married with two grown-up daughters.
Previously, I was a governor at the King’s school in Pontefract, and part of the team that set up the PAT (Pontefract academies trust), one of the first multi-academy trusts in the area.
My mother was a head teacher in Castleford, and my daughter is head of year 6 at Dulwich College in London. My mother believed that the early years in education are a "window of opportunity. " This is proven by science and the fact the brain develops more quickly during the first 5 years of life.
When I met Mrs Burden for the first time, I felt something special. Here was a headteacher with a vision. I felt she was building a positive school culture and wanted everyone to understand that, through consistency of actions, every child who walks through the doors of Townville Academy will get the best possible start in life.
Since then, and with support from our trust, the school has been fully refurbished, and the staff team continue to work extremely hard with the headteacher towards making this an excellent school.
I became a Parent Governor to actively support the school and contribute my skills and experience to its ongoing development. I am committed to working collaboratively with staff and fellow governors to help the school succeed. Both my girls attend/attended Townville, and its heart‑warming to see how much my eldest still misses the school. That says so much about the care, support, and dedication of the staff and school community. I feel very proud to be a small part of it.
Since becoming a governor, I’ve witnessed the school’s journey first‑hand. It has not always been easy road, but the learning needs of every child have always been at the forefront of decision‑making. As a result, the school is now going from strength to strength. The school consistently goes above and beyond to give every child the best possible learning opportunity. The passion of the teachers is inspiring, and it’s wonderful to see that same enthusiasm reflected in the children as they support and encourage one another.
I feel very lucky to be a Governor—Townville Academy really is A.C.E.
I am proud to serve as staff governor at Townville Academy where I also work as a classroom teacher. This dual role allows me to contribute a well-informed perspective, ensuring that the voices of both pupils and staff are represented in decision-making.
I was motivated to become a governor to support the school community more broadly and play an active part in shaping its ongoing development. I am particularly proud of the work we have done to strengthen and enrich the curriculum, as well as the positive and collaborative relationships we have built between the school and our parents and carers.
It is an absolute privilege and honour to be a governor at Townville Academy; an incredibly caring school community that gives the very best foundations for learning for EVERY child. During my role I have seen the school go from strength to strength and the warm greetings I receive on each of my visits from both staff and children are beyond heart-warming.
What makes Townville Academy so unique is the absolute drive and determination that they will do ‘whatever it takes’ to ensure that all children, regardless of their starting point or need receive the very best learning opportunities as they progress through the school. What really shines brightly are the wonderful children who equally share that desire and passion to be even better than they were the day before; a real key driver to ensuring that they also truly care about their educational journey.
The ethos of the whole school is completely transformational and continues to be on such an incredible journey of change where every single person is striving for excellence in everything that they do for the children. I can honestly say I feel so lucky to be a governor at Townville Academy; a very special place with people who truly care about everyone and everything.
