Attendance And Punctuality And Reporting Absences

At Townville Academy, we believe that regular attendance and arriving on time are essential for children’s learning, wellbeing, and social development. We work closely with families to ensure every child can access the full-time education they are entitled to and provide support where barriers to attendance arise. Our academy monitors attendance daily, celebrates excellent attendance, and follows up on absences to ensure children are safe and supported. Parents have a legal responsibility to ensure their child attends school regularly and on time, and we encourage open communication to address any challenges together. By working in partnership, we help every child thrive, achieve their potential, and enjoy being part of our school community.  Please see our policy on our policy page of this website.

Attendance Matters:

Our Attendance Road Map:

Rewarding attendance

As part of a trust-wide initiative to improve attendance across all our schools, we’re launching an exciting new attendance challenge! We really want to boost our whole-school attendance and encourage every child to be in school every day.

'Star in the jar'

The 'Star in the jar' initiative is linked to a class reward for good attendance.

⭐ Each class has a wooden jar and a star chart.
⭐ If everyone in the class is present, they earn a star in their jar each morning.
⭐ Our goal is 100% attendance every day!
⭐ Once the jar is full, the class gets to vote for a special treat from the menu of rewards created by our Pupil Ambassadors

We monitor attendance weekly, identifying which class has the highest attendance each week. The winning class are presented with the attendance trophy.

Our children love achieving a star in the jar – they know that this means everybody is learning, achieving and thriving together.

Attendance certificates

Each term we award children who have met and exceeded our attendance goal with Bronze, Silver or Gold attendance certificates.

We also award those children who secure 100% attendance with a gold '100%' badge which can be worn to school each day – this recognises and celebrates the outstanding achievement of 100% attendance.

Reporting Absences

All absences need to be accounted for. Parents are asked to inform the school of the reasons for a child’s absence before 9.15am either by telephoning the school or by sending a message. Where no contact has been received, and a child is absent, enquiries will be made requesting a reason for the absence.

Children who arrive after registration will be marked ‘late’. If you are late, you must sign your child in at the office before going into the classroom.

Registers are regularly checked by the School Attendance Officer and Education Welfare Officer, and if there are any concerns, parents will be contacted.
