Learning Environment At Townville

Classroom environments both support and enrich the learning of all children. As well as being beautiful and welcoming, the classroom environment is primarily a learning resource, the second teacher, a way of engaging children and building the class community.   Through purposeful design, they create a sense of ownership and are used to support and promote learning as well as celebrating children’s work. With careful thought and planning, an effective classroom environment is used as an interactive resource supporting teaching, learning and assessment.

At Townville Academy, we believe that a well-organised and stimulating environment has a direct impact on the quality of teaching and learning, and therefore supports the raising of standards. It enables pupils to develop independence as learners, building on good Foundation Stage practice.

Consistency across classrooms ensures that all children experience the same high expectations, routines and supportive learning spaces, helping them feel secure and confident as they move through school. Every area of the school is designed with purpose to inspire curiosity, support emotional wellbeing and help children thrive academically, socially and emotionally.

Working walls provide visual prompts that scaffold learning and help children develop confidence as independent learners. Reading is celebrated everywhere, from book corners and classroom shelves to displays, fostering a culture of literacy throughout the school. Phonics and reading areas are structured, focused and support children to become confident, fluent readers.
